Beware this is serious....

This is scary stuff, anyone know of sources to confirm that this is indeed spreading? Anyone had experience with it?

i just got a zipped, 8Kb "voice mail" from (953) 436-6434 that held an ".exe" file.
when i looked up the number, it was registered to someone in russia. :D

Content locker virus. If that don't be all. Mafia marketing tactics. :euro:

I just got it yesterday, but it didn't do much harm, it just encrypted a few text files for some reason, and not the entire computer. Luckily the text files it encrypted weren't important. I think it did corrupt my SSD, cause I wasn't able to install ubuntu on it until I ran dban. I'm giving up on windows because of this and going to linux only.

Which anti-virus are you using?

Email companies like yahoo are pretty stupid.
They let scammers/spammers put green checkmarks beside their subjects, making it look like it is a verified email address to a unsuspecting internet user.
I received a paypal scam email with a green checkmark beside its subject. It looked legit as if PayPal really sent it to me.

So Yahoo is a terrible email company in my opinion and should be avoided. I don't know if google or outlook also allow scammers/spammers to put green checkmarks beside their subject or not.

Oh, and the email did not even appear in the spam/junk mail folder. That's how bad Yahoo is. Any newbie would have clicked the link in the email.

I wasn't using any anti-virus since I didn't want to slow down computer performance to scan for stuff, I just used ad blockers and watch what I download. But now since I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 I don't need to worry getting viruses anymore.

Yahoo is all around pretty worthless, most of their news stories are just gossip and clickbait.

Scary stuff. Glad that I am using a Mac for most the IM stuff I do. And on my PC I use AVG (the free edition), so far it has been able to delete most viruses. But overall I don't like antivirus since they use too much resources.

I just found out it affected more files than I thought about 15GB, but still nothing important, the vast majority was still saved from it.

With this widepread, i kind of worry about some of my CPA niches, these offers also require content locking, i wonder whether will the conversion rate drop.

It's not really that widespread any more. After the GameOver takedown it's slowed down big time. Why would conversions drop on your CPA offer...? I see little to no correlation between content locked with a survey and an entire hard drive encrypted and held for ransom.
