I just received a C&D from CL over a website I own. The site is offshore and has private whois. I'm not sure how they tracked me down but they were able to get my info from somewhere or someone. Unfortunately I never moved the domain from godaddy so I'm thinking its them even though I have private whois.

I've been wanting to sell this site for a while now so I'm not sure what to do. I don't even actually sell the PVAs or any of the services on the site. I've just been using affiliate offers that do all the work.

Where would I even sell it at? I don't think Flippa allows these kind of sites do they? Should I just shut it down? It makes about $400-700 a month in affiliate commissions on autopilot. I'd hate to just shut it down but since I'm in the US I don't feel like getting sued either.

Using brand name in the domain often leads to this.. Does ur domain name consist of term 'Craigslist' ?

The biggest problem is that if you don't mention the C&D to the new owner, they have every right to sue for fraud after the sale if they find out about it. You have been hit with something that severely threatens the value of that website...

*Edit* You could GIVE it to someone you trust - and have them split future profits... and let them know what the deal is. Even better if the person is from a country not easily prosecutable or sued.

Move servers, transfer your domain offshore. Put it another name, sell it to yourself.

No it's just one page on the site that ranks well for a bunch of craigslist keywords. The rest of the site deals with other BH services.

I would mention it to them but the buyer would need to be from outside the US. I wouldn't sell it to someone in the US.

    Thought about that.

Do you think if I just killed the page that offers PVAs that they would stop bothering me?

Hmm that's a possibility. I've been trying to get the guy who actually creates the accounts to buy it off of me.

I'm in the US too otherwise I'd offer to work with you... but that wouldn't help you. You'll be taking a risk by giving someone else control of it obviously - but if it works out, you profit - probably for a long time and honestly, I don't think you it's a viable product to sell since you got the C&D. The day before you got it, yep... but not since.

Hit me up on skype if you are willing to split profits. I will manage everything related to your domain/hosting.

Really sucks you pay for privacy and that info still leaks out. Yeah i'd do like the others said and offload it overseas or work with someone overseas who they can't touch even if they do get the new info..

I'm in Portugal, if that helps. Shoot me a PM if you're cornered.

We (still) have a very lenient law around here.

    Anyway, good luck!

There's no point in having offshore hosting if the domain is with GoDaddy of all people.

It would be better to transfer the domain offshore and host the site in the US, that way you never lose the domain and just move to an offshore host.

What's the C&D regarding? You don't have craigslist in your domain at all?

You can also ignore the C&D and see if they follow up or not. A lot of times they mass send out the C&D's to protect their trademarks but have no intention of following up. I received a C&D from them a few years back on a site I owned and I ignored it, and they never contacted me again. If you are just promoting affiliate offers I have a hard time believing they will pursue legal action against you.

Yeah, especially with GoDaddy, having whois on or not won't be of any help if anyone comes knocking their door with C&D's, spam complaints (just another example), etc.

So if you just rank high for craigslist keywords, that's illegal?

Re-brand the site with a new domain and 301 the old one?
