    Hello,

I've got a local directory site that allows for people to write reviews about local businesses. It's a long term project, not a churn and burn site and I'm hoping to eventualy get some local advertisers. I think the key to this, at least initially, is getting people to write some decent reviews.

The domains are a little over a year old, so they're not brand new. I have tried a cash drawing to get people to sign up and write a review but that hasn't been as succesful as I'd hoped it would be. I tried fb advertising; small amounts just to experiment, but that didn't seem to help. I also have a twitter account for the site. My traffic is VERY low so improving that might help.

So, I'm wondering if any of you have any ideas for promoting the site like this, sort of a jump start, on a budget of around $500.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

    Billy

    Imbilly,

You could start a blog that would allow you to target more keywords and it would also allow you to provide helpful information for your target audience. Your activities on social media are a step in the right direction. Keep doing that and share info that is helpful for people. I wouldn't revisit the PPC until you have a well-defined and effective conversion funnel.

hmmmm I would recomend trying adword compain with keyword such as "car wash reviews" etc... maybe copy some remiews from other sites to get it started? not sure if its niche related but it seems you have long way ahead of you plus you have to compete with googlemaps as they have business reviews

There's a load of nice link building packages (I'd suggest Universal SEO for the current $39 price is a STEAL) also look for an OnPage freelancer (probably $50 - $300 depending on the amount of pages he'll be optimizing) - Add a blog to your site and do some content creation either yourself or get someone else to do it for you.
And do some PPC for $5/day on some Low CPC Niche Keywords..

If I was you, let assume you already got your hosting and website in place, all content done, I will learn more about SEO that's if you don't know about it yet, once you got the hang of SEO a little bit, search this forum for reputable member selling SEO services, find long tail keywords with exact from 100-1000 at least it's easier to rank those and build from that.

Hang around this forum you will learn shit loads
