What are your favorite techniques? One of mine is to offer 10% off meal purchase for FB likes. Would be interested to hear some from you all

    Cheers

Warning - COMPLETE NOOB ADVICE AHEAD

Maybe you could speak to local papers and see if they will do an online review of your restaurant...

They may in-turn know of food bloggers who would write about you.

Get it touch with food bloggers in your area and advertise on their sites.

what i'm going to say is basic stuff for local but you'd be surprised how many companies have no clue...

    1) claim google+ page and make sure if filled out completely. (also check and remove any duplicate listings)
    2) have plenty of business directory citations

I'd create some high quality content based on the local area (and infographic for example based on something interesting in your local area) then pitch that graphic to big local outlets like the sites of your local newspapers, that should get the job done.

are you looking for SEO or for promotion ideas, two totally separate things in the local restaurant internet marketing world

for seo make sure their on-page is perfect, if they have more than one location .com/city-name-xx-burger-shop (xx = state abbreviation) should be on a unique contact page that is easily found on the sitemap / layout of site

make sure you have microdata set up for the business name addy and phone number, and a g+ page filled out

then go through the big lists of citations and make them good, just google a top 20 list, easy, dont use yext

Marketing-wise: Depending on which country the restaurant is based in, I would also take advantage of Swarm's promotions (for people that check-in at said restaurant). Take a look at it, I don't know if it's available in your region.
