I've noticed that a lot more networks want a W9 faxed up front plus some of the money making methods here require faxing. So I was wondering what is the cheapest (hopefully free) and easiest methods for faxing something offline and also by using the Internet?

Ya of course but the dude asked for a Internet way of doing it, You know sometimes you need a US fax number and if you're not from US you wont be able to fax from offline fax machine using US number.

You print it out, sign it and then scan it and email back to them. Assuming you have a printer and a scanner. That's what I did.

And to add a note, you can use the internal FAX software that comes with windows and your Modem/phone line to send a fax for free, besides toll charge if any, if they Won't accept it through email. Most do at least All my Networks took an emailed form :)

    Hope that helps.

Seems that windows xp canhelp you send a fax

Using FaxFax provides you with complete fax facilities from your computer. You can configure fax settings, send and receive faxes, track and monitor fax activity, and access archived faxes. Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network.

Fax is not installed by default during Windows Setup.

    To install the Fax component
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
    Notes

To open Fax after installation, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
For more information on using Fax, click Help in Fax Console.

i ran into something at a clients office last week. its only worth it if you phone/fax a lot, but this thing called magicjack. its basically VOIP, but super simple install and works with phones and fax machines. this is assuming you have a fax machine. i suppose you could run a line from your modem into the magicjack too if thats your style.
efax is good too. lots of people happy with that service.
i personally don't get the need for faxing now that everyone has scanners and can open a pdf, but some businesses still require fax
