I have the hardest time getting up in the morning, which isn't really a big deal since I don't have a job to go to...

    HOWEVER

I wish I could get up earlier than I do - the problem is I simply cannot force myself out of bed unless I'm getting a phone call.

Does anyone have some advice on the best way to wake myself up?

Maybe I should have a Red Bull on my bedside table that I can shotgun when I awake?

I had the same problem, but then got rid of it with thous "solve math problems" alarm clocks.

When it starts to ring you have to solve three math problems, after that it stops ringing. Believe me, it works, your brain start's to function right away and you are not sleepy any more.

The downside of the whole concept is that every morning I feel dumber and dumber. Imagine how it is when you wake up, you don't know where you are or what are you doing but you have to solve a simple math problem like 3x7 and then you are just looking at it and trying to figure out what's the correct number :D

You would think that would work... but the reality is I would never get up to turn it off. I won't even get up if someone turns on the light in my room. Disturbing really...

Interesting... that may work for me. I know when I get a phone call and get up to answer it and start talking on the phone, I'm wide awake within 5 minutes.

Its all about getting the brain in a conscious state I suppose...

Dude I had this problem in school so instead of sleeping long hours - I started having 3 power naps - makes it very easy to get up at any time - just have nap at midday for like 2 hours and be rejuvenated keep having shorts naps.it works wonders

Ironically a friend and I tried this in college. I found that when I tried doing this I could not get up from my naps. Literally. I would just end up sleeping for 6-7 hours and arising at midnight. SUPER inconvenient.

I would end up getting lunch food at breakfast because as far as my body was concerned, it was lunch time at 7 in the morning. Likewise this was also super inconvenient.

How I wish it would've worked for me...

I have the exact same problem for years now. I can go out of bed, take a shower, talk with my gf and go back to bed.

A few hours later i wake up and don't recall doing any of the previous things.

What works for me now is a scare effect, i have a alarm that makes all kind of strange noises like a screaming woman, a hungry lion and more.. That works for me.

B/c I have stuff to do during the day, I do all my IM stuff between the hours of 4AM and 7AM. What I do is make my phone an alarm clock and put it somewhere where I have to get up to turn it off. Sometimes I roll back into bed, but not that often. Then I stumble to my computer and work. It's worked pretty well for me!

    SAme problem here :(

I tried to put a boat danger alarm far from my bed to make me get up to put it off. But unfortunatly, i start dreaming about it and my dreams turn into a stressing nightmare :(

THen it goes off, and i wake few hours later.

I know the best thing to do is to go to bed early to be able to wake up earlier, but it is hard when you are trained to not to do so :D

As you wake up, push yourself out of bed as hard as you can...

Wake me up before you go go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo!

Set that as your alarm clock and you'll be set.

try one of the thinkgeek alarm clocks that makes you get out of bed in order to turn them off.

I have the atomic bomb one, and it makes an annoying noise (that you can tune the tone) and bright LED flashes and it always gets me up. Unless im passed out, nothing will get me up from that.. lol

haha! I do the same but I guess I need to increase the number of problems from 1 to 3. I get up, solve the problem and then promise myself that I
ll wake up in next 10 minutes and end up sleeping more 3 hours. Thanks for this reply, I'm increasing the number of problems to 4. :D

    LMAO :))

seriously I had the same problem, and still SOMEHOW do.. but it's getting easier.. I've been sleeping at day time for over 6 years.. meaning I was going to sleep at like 8AM in the morning, and had weird periods when I was waking up at 11PM lol.. now I said it's time for a change because it's unhealthy as fuck and I was like a zombie all the time. Trust me, it STILL SUCKS to wake up in the day, there's a lot of powerfull light that I hate and a lot of heat in the summer, but whatever..

Anyway I still do wake up a bit harder, and I barely can open my eyes even though I'm awake but I immediatly turn on the TV, put some music on the iphone and wash my face and so on.

I'll give you a very interesting website/article made by some freaky doctor or something which describes very very interesting facts about sleeping... you will see what YOU have to do in order to make your sleep better. (too long to describe here).

Yeah, why don't you try to live better life? Get some vitamins and eat healthy food, don't drink alcohol if you do, don't smoke if you do.

    Do some sports.

    Drink more water.

You will see the result soon.
