I basically have 2 sites in the same niche, and I want all traffic from site A to go to site B without having to 301. I don't want to 301 because I don't want the link metrics transferring and I'd rather have site A keep it's position in the SERP. I'm thinking about a 302, but I hear that can sometimes work out, but sometimes it doesn't because Google may decide to split the link juice or think that the redirection should be permanent.

    Any suggestions?

Indeed a 302 sounds perfect - it won't transfer any values from the links, but it will transfer the users.

G (at least, Cutts) has definitively said that a 302 does not flow juice, and I don't think I'm enough of a skeptic to doubt him on that, at least.

It's not that I don't trust you, I'm just hoping that someone who did this can confirm that.

So no body has ever done a 302 and can confirm exactly what it does? If it splits link metrics or anything?

Use 302 redirect. Pretty link pro should do the trick. Here is the guide for you to redirect your links using 302 using Pretty links pro.

My question isn't how to do a 302 redirect. I'm asking what it does, exactly. Does it just redirect traffic? Forward link juice? Does the redirected site stay indexed and hold its ranking?

There must be at least 1 person on BHW that has done a 302 and knows lol It would be pretty funny if I didnt get at least 1 straight answer.

If you only want to redirect the traffic and keep the serp position there`s only one way and you need to use cloakers. Let the spiders visit your site and redirect human visitors.

    Cheers

302 redirect only redirect your traffic and it won't forward/pass any link juice. Nope. Your redirected site will stay indexed but will not hold the ranking as you are using 302 redirect which is not passing any link juice at all, and your redirected page may be a new page from a new website hence it will not rank that fast but will get indexed.

According to Matt Cutts a 302 redirect only redirects traffic and not link juice.
