This is the first thread I have started. Over the past few months I built 2 sites that were broadly targeted at women. The good news is that based on some techniques learned here - with some thought and a few of my own twists - my first site is generating around 500 uniques per day. The second site is behind that - I started it much later - but is ahead of where site 1 was at the same point in it's life. I think that is good, but not great. But it's growing steadily. All of that traffic is 100% organic. I am monetizing the site with AdSense and with my Amazon Affiliate account but the results are underwhelming. I am tinkering with both to try and improve them, but my conversion on Amazon is about 1.5%. My click rate on AdSense is about 2.5% which isn't bad, but the clicks are not worth much. The first site is on a generic WP theme but I built the second site on Heatmap Adaptive (free version - couldn't find a copy of the current Pro version).

When I started I made a conscious decision to work on building out the site and generating consistent traffic and I figured when I had traffic I could focus more time on monetizing. I have read everything I can find here on BHW and elsewhere but I still have a basic question given that my site is heavily geared to women.

The Big Question: What is the best way to monetize a site like this?

    The Smaller Questions:

    1. Is there a way to optimize AdSense so it serves more valuable ads? And yes, I reread all of their guidelines last night.
    2. Any tips with regard to Amazon? Is the Woocommerce plugin worthwhile?
    3. Other options I should consider?
    4. What am I missing?

If I am able to figure this out and generate decent money I will write a guide but right now, this project is at a critical stage - good, growing traffic but little money.

One tip I can give is that it is much easier for you to use amazon than other website owners. Just simply slip in your "favorite/recommended products" in your posts.

For example, you're talking about makeup and then you simply say you recommend (insert a MAC product here) to achieve a certain look. Obviously should do some research to suggest good products to build trust with your community.

Beauty websites seem to do better with affiliate promotions rather than adsense. Then, after you have had consistent visitors, you can start doing product placements in place of ads on your sidebar or wherever.

That's helpful. Though, we haven't done any beauty yet - starting beauty next week. We have done the recommended/favorites thing and the conversion has been poor.

Can you flesh out what you mean by product placement in the sidebar in place of ads? Do you mean place Amazon Affiliate pics/links in the sidebar or are you talking about something different?
