I'm starting a new project working for a custom kayak shop

My contact at the company wants me to do a small quantity test run of Kids Kayaks to see what the market is like for this and hasn't yet been established on the internet very well (another project i'm taking on for him).

Because I can't depend on the company website to launch this product, and the owner wants it on the market as fast as possible, I'm planning on selling it on eBay and amazon, as well as submitting it to Google products.

Can anyone recommend other venues I should push this on?

Do you think that longterm, having affiliate marketing would be a good way to sell this product?

If you have amazon prime you can create a new product. It might also be worth contacting a few local marine shop owners (even if they're a franchise) to fence your goods for market testing. Give them a MSRP of from 30-50% over what you charge for the price, and only make them pay you if they sell it (else you take it back at the end of the testing period). It'll be hard for them to say no to free inventory. Make sure you get info on the # of customers they have daily, how many kayaks are sold weekly/monthly, and the top brands. Maybe even print up a few flyers or counter displays for your kayak, something that grabs the attention during checkout.

I like the combination of online and offline advertising. :)

In the area where I live (SW Florida) there are TONS of kayak rental places, boating magazines, etc. It would be incredibly easy to contact a writer for one of the local magazines and have him test a kayak out in exchange for a short article. That alone would get the attention of marine shop owners in the area, who read these things religiously :)
