Best way to handle a w9?

Ok so I have 2 different types of business, both are freelancer, but one is article writer, and one is online services (web designing).

Textbroker and another company wants me to fill a w9 with my social or ein, and i am skeptical when it comes to giving your social to everyone.

Is there a way I can apply for a freelance ein with the irs, one for each business, or do I just need 1? I do not have a official llc or general partnership , I am new to this, and I intend on doing that the beginning of next year.

You can apply right online and it does not take very long. Unless they have changed the rules the irs wants you to use just one ein no matter how many businesses you are running.
