I have a software site that gets lots of hits each day, and lots of users click on my Amazon affiliate links to "download" the software but then when they realise it's not free they don't bother continuing with the purchase. Most of my Amazon income comes from completely unrelated products, where the user has gone back to Amazon later in the day and made a purchase. My question is how do you think I could encourage people on my website to buy things from Amazon? I know for a fact they are never going to pay for the software, that's just there to legitimately set the cookie without stuffing it. I tried adding the self-optimising widget thing in the hope that it would display things the user is interested in but it just seems to display junk. What if I add a popunder that opens the main amazon.co.uk homepage when a user clicks the download link, do you think that would have any success? That way when the user finishes browsing my site they realise Amazon is open and maybe have a browse on there, but my cookie is still set so I'd get the commission. All suggestions appreciated.
