There's a few pretty low-key domains I'm after, both have absolutely zero content and who-is is blocked by privary-protect.org
I went through privacy-protect.org , sent emails, didn't get any responses.

Is there anyway to see when they expire? Or anyway to find the owners?

whois should still show the name's expiration date even with privacy on it

you could contact the registrar of record and tell them you're interested in buying the names - some registrars offer "brokerage" services where they try to mediate sales

and have you checked around the auction sites to see if they're for sale anywhere?

    peace,
