I'm probably blind but I'm confused... What error did she make besides being dumb and giving out her 3 digit verification number?

As per OP the number was whitened by some reposter. So, she gave all her card details to random guys. Unless her country has got some strict laws, anyone can use her card.
Here, in my country you need to know the secondary securecode to approve a transaction. So, that could be the thing in her case.

Those debit card stuff are all fake. I have a personal twitter account and those stuff always show up on my TL. They just do that for the RTs and get some followers if they are pretty.

LOL, this is what waitresses do when you stiff them on a tip. There used to be a couple forum threads (different forum) where waitresses admitted they'd take a snapshot of a customers card when they took it to the backroom to ring it up. They held these snapshots for "ransom" in case the customer stiffed them on a tip. It the customer stiffed them they'd post as a dumb girl and disclose the tightwad's card with name and *** code. If you check the names on the cards you'll notice they're from a group of people notorious for not tipping or cheap tipping. This is just payback to those that think server tips aren't important.

You think the youngsters are stupid and posting their own cards, nah :D
