Hey I'm totally new at growing a site and making it more popular. Anything to do with SEO is still unknown to me at the moment. I'm not asking for my hand to be held at the start, just if you have some good/useful tips for an inexperienced beginner that would be great.

My site is a healthy food blog if that matters.

Also if any of you would be generous enough to look at my site and tell me what I'm doing right and wrong, that'd be great; just pm me and I'll give you the site address.

    Thanks/

The biggest thing is to add fresh content daily. This will draw people in and want to come back.

Optimizing a website starts before the website is built. Search engines look for quality content, high site performance, great user experience, and web authority. -

Optimize your site with specific keywords to attract relevant traffic to help build traffic -

Add unique contents. By adding contents on consistently will show that you really know that stuff. Few sample content ideas like health tips, healthy foods we should take for a health life style etc.. Then promote it via social medias.

Integrating your social media accounts with posts that direct/ lead to your website is also a good start. You don't have to join all social media platforms just those you can use/relate to your niche. I hope this helps.

Well, make your content worth to read and related to your niche (food). Posting content regularly and integrate it with social medias works good, IMO..

    Good luck!

I suggest you to try Reddit. There are several great subreddits for food niche.
    For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/food/

Day after yesterday I got more than 37 000 unique visits from one post! It was in 10 times smaller subreddit as food.

If you are planning to start with reddit grab a month old account as I tried posing from my 10 days old account and the post got removed.
Feel free to share more thoughts. I have also started a food blog few weeks back
    Cheers

Guest blogging is something else you could try to help get traffic to your site and build links. Get in touch with blog owners who are in related/non-competing niches, e.g weight loss, body building, beauty,e.t.c.

Guest post on some other food bloggers sites. Tell them you're just getting started and want to grow your reach. You can generally get a link back and get some exposure. If your post is good you might get some followers on your social accounts too.

It is very important to post informative and useful articles twice or thrice in a week, try to build some backlinks for your website which drives traffic. Share your article via social media networks this greatly increases the number of viewers and followers.

Thanks for all the tips guys they're great. I feel like I have a ton to learn though at the moment though.

^ by 'backlinks' do you mean commenting on as many articles in the same niche as me and including my website address in my posts?

I've got about 130k Instagram followers spread over 7 accounts that are health-conscious so I've added links to all of their bios. I've also just started a Twitter account and am growing that; I have set it to schedule posts (with attached healthy foods pics) with my site link added, every 1and a half hours. It has got a couple of people tweeting out my article already which is great. They must have used the share button on my site.

What do you mean by keywords and how would you find out which ones are those?

My site appears to be running fast when I checked that Google program (forgot what it is called) so I don't think I need to optimise it any more :S
