Since I hate the winter, I have decided I am going to take off for a month in February to Florida. Taking the wife and kid, so I need somewhere low key. Would love a place that is laid back (you know 420 friendly:). Not into partying like a rock star, just a cool place to chill. Don't care if it is gulf side or ocean side.

Any suggestions for those of you who have live in Florida or live there now?

    Thanks in advance!

I heard Cape Coral is pretty nice. Very low key. Not sure about smoking stuff, as we both know that depends on what STREET you live on. lol.

lol, it's sorta funny you used the word chill, by the way. haha

I'm going to Ixtapa this summer. All inclusive for 2.5 months. Cheaper then what you would think. It's gonna be nice.

Key West... The most liberal city in Florida... Miami is cool too but not comfortable for tourist unless your wallet is fat.... Orlando, is cool too. Decent hotel prices but food is a little high.. I dont care for Jacksonville or Tampa.. Can recoomend some towns as well if thats what you're looking for.

The 420 thing is really not that important. Just thought I would throw that in. Just looking for a cool place to take the family for a month that is low key, near the water, and that is a low crime area.

jstover - I have a condo in Clearwater and a home in Jacksonville. Stay away from Jax in Feb as it is freaking cold. Even now the weather here is only going to hit 62 for the high.

Clearwater is a nice place in Feb, the weather is acceptable, the gulf is clean as a whistle, fishing is good and the area is rather laid back with an awful lot to do. In fact, the Phillies have spring training there and you could even catch some action.

Not sure about 420 activity as I do no indulge but I'd be hard pressed to think that t is not there in abundance.

Downtown disney is pretty cool for kids and grown folk, and its 420 friendly aswell. You could also try cocoa beach or daytona, even though you cant swim this time of year, the view is still nice. The good thing is that all 3 of these places are within about an hour of each other.

If you get to Downtown Disney, be sure to take your family to the Cirque Du Soleil show "La Nouba". It's $100 a ticket, but it is a show you will never forget. Great Entertainment! :)

    Cheers! - "Wiz"

For sure u want low key just like the first reply said Cape Coral.
YOu can easily get a nice house with literally no next door neighbors since poeple either forclosed on lots or its not worth it to build. So u can be there with no1 next to you. Also near the beaches. My wife lived there for a year. More than likely u can find a cheap rental too since this area was hit hard by economy

I agree... And they have the best places to eat like, the house of blues and former planet hollywood (I forgot what they changed the name to, but it was an awesome place to eat, with great scenery. I moved back to dallas from orlando 10 years ago, so im sure alot has changed in downtown disney since then, but im sure it only got better... Another good place which is obvious would be universal studios, and I-Drive (international dr.)

Wihtout any question...the hidden gem you are looking for is Anna Marie Island. SW coast.

I loved it so much I talked my wife into us getting married there, and it is beautiful.

    Google it.

Definitely go to the gulf side, get a house about 15 minutes away from the water, you can rent very cheap and find some relatively secluded areas that aren't far from larger cities as well. Great idea man, I definitely have to get out of this f---ing blizzard city!
