My company has some reputation issues that popped up from 2005-early 2008 that have been blogged about and discussed on numerous forums. We have cleaned up our act, but the online press is scaring away new business and making hiring problematic.

We really need to address our online problems, but many of the SEO guys we hire are full of promises but do nothing more then shuffle around the first 10 results. Money is not really an object (we cant pay Fortune prices but we are a successful midsized company); we need someone who is excellent at cleaning up the first 10 results of google. We have numerous websites, employees who's whole job it is to generate content, and active blogs. We just need someone who is really good to pull it all together.

Can any of you refer me to an SEO leader or company that is generally accepted as a real pro?

PS: Re-branding is not an option at this time.

123ranking.co.uk, these guys don't mess about. If they can't make it work, they will refuse the job. I have commercial experience of this company and highly recommend them !!!

Joe Blow sites that are referenced every day by job applicants and customers. The more business my marketing brings in the more people click on the negative links. Its a really vicious cycle.

Keywords are unfortunately my companys name (and indeed the whole industry). Pat I sent you a PM.
