    Hi Friends,

I've been searching online for some info on this subject, but surprisingly have found little info on which is best.

I was considering either the Majic Jack or Skype phone for DROPPING my land line service....(because its $30-35 mth extra over my DSL bill). If i can dump the land line, THAT WOULD be very Kewl. I have DSL w/ AT&T. (even though Comcast is faster (i think theirs service is a "t1 line") BUT, but because of the complaints i've heard for Comcast decided to stay with AT&T.

ANYWAY, I use skype for instant messaging and it works fine...BUT have "never tried a Skype Phone." I also thought of Majic Jack which i understand plugs right into the router? Majic Jack is also about $50 yr....and my understanding is that Skype would be free or about the same as Majic.

Still researching,....BUT i thought i would throw the question out my Buds on BH and see what they say.

QUESTION: Which phone would be a better setup and Why?

~thanks for any constructive input you have...
    Cheers!

I would not recommend skype phones.
Magic Jack is ok at best, I use it as a second line for my work after my cell phone, but most of the time it just forwards to my cell anyway.
Service is ok at best, but I find it to be more of a pain then the cost savings are worth.
I know a lot of people that use it, but I am a very busy person in a day with my business and I dont mind paying more to know my technology will "just work"

Ok guys....i got the info i needed. Looks like Majic Jack is going to work for me (being a US user mostly).

Perhaps i will get skype if i make or need international calls.

My main concern is using a VOIP phone and DSL. (speed of DSL vs. t1 Cable).

    thanks

Thats interesting. I have a friend who uses Majic Jack (but he's on ATT Universe - high speed) and he sounds just like a land line (maybe better). He's in Tenn.

Slightly more expensive but we are using Ooma for our business line. 2 partners, 2 lines at my house. After rewiring the house I removed the landline completely. Currently we each are also pushing the Ooma number to our cellphones so I can literally do business wherever I have a cell signal, and no one is the wiser most of the time. Make sure to set QOS on the router if you use one of these so downloading or playing games doesn't affect the quality.
