Best image compression/webp WP plugins and which are free?

There are so many image plugins I can't try them all.
Discuss which are free and which are not, which are the best, what are the different plans, and what do you use them for specifically.

tbh i would just pick the one with best rating on plugin marketplace. all the same
 
I use WP-Optimize. Good for cache and minify, and uses built in reSmush.it to compress and convert images. The only downside is the lack of lazy loading, but that can be done through Jetpack if required.
 
Search for webp-express (WordPress pluglin) from bjorn Rosel. The best free to use I found so far.

It uses your own processing power to make webp.
 
Your best option is to find method that is not wp plugin, because you won't find best and free together.
Even if you do find, you might pay later being hacked or something similar.
Open image with paint and save as jpeg would do the job.
 
Have you tried Imagify? It's free up to 20MB per month, and it's suitable for small websites. The important thing is that it's synchronized with WP Rocket and Cloudflare.
 
WP-Optimise seems like a viable option.
 
ShortPixel has limited free credits which are enough for a smaller site.
