    Hi all
It's common knowledge that owning a readable 4 letter domain in 2012 is far more valuable (and difficult to own) than it was in say 2002. Same can be said about a 2007 facebook fan page or an early popular twitter account.

I would like to hear some of your ideas- what are the best assets that are still cheap in 2012 yet can highly appreciate in value in the next decade?

    Home Page:
Highly targeted mailing lists with users that won't unsubscribe as soon as they will receive a paid offer.

I think there's still some scope in domains. I have read that news extensions such as .uk are beign released with stricter requirements. .uk for example are looking for you to prove that you have an established business within the UK before you can purchase the domain. I think these will naturally become high in value over time.

I think single word domains are still worth investing in. It doesn't take much work to check on Sedo's GreatDomains auction once a month: www.greatdomains.com/gd/, often time's single word domains go up for auction there.

But a lot of the other assets really aren't "buy and hold" assets, they're "buy and grow" assets. Websites, lists, fan pages, etc all need active growth strategies, or their value quickly deteriorates as people leave.

I second Jacob above: a big mailing list with targeted subscribers and hungry buyers is the best asset you can have in IM.
