www.dreamhost.com they are awesome on speed for US (since they are located there), they have 1 click and API, it is hell easy to use google apps, you can easily migrate to VPS and they can hold off forums with high amount of activity very easily so wp would be piece of cake.

If you want PM and I will send u a coupon.

EDIT: they have also high security specially for wp, they update security and other things as needed asap and keep an eye to exploit and potential things that could ruin your site.

Stablehost any day. They have very good servers, speeds and support. They isolate accounts from each other so no one can hog the resources on the other so you are assured to have resources to make use of. They're like HostGator where you get support 24/7 but with more lenient policy and better servers. With so many reviews and a 45 days refund policy, you can't go wrong.

Thanks to both of you guys that commented above,

I've heard of dreamhost before along with bluehost first time hearing about stablehost though.

I like what you said CGI about them upgrading without hassle so I can go for shared hosting to start off with then go for the higher packages - what type of traffic can shared hosts handle on bluehost? hostgator usually sucked for me with shared hosting they used to disable my account randomly.

I don't want this to sound like a battle but I don't think dreamhost is the kind of host you want to work with. They offer unlimited disc space and bw, which is a red flag for everyone, you never know when they disable your account for "overusage". They also have many negative reviews just by looking here.

But it's your choice mate, I don't make anything out of this but I want to make sure that bhw members do get proper advice.

Edit: Haha, what a coincidence, was just browsing the forum and saw this.

Agree. Been with a yearly Dreamhost package a few years ago. The setup is complicated.

The fact that they have database setup off of the same host means there are delays. Imagine having to query the database 100 times per post, which is not that uncommon for database heavy application like WordPress or Drupal. That quickly adds up. Page speed is so important nowadays.

Again that was a few years ago. Don't know if they've fixed it.

If you must go with shared hosting, I'd recommend Hostgator, Bluehost, Hostmonster, StableHost or HawkHost. All of them are very good.

Btw, you can get an 8GB dedicated server through OVH (Kimsufi) for $39, which is below your budget. Yeah you have to pay more for cPanel license, but one-click WP installation is not that hard either if you do it manually. The second and third time will be a breeze.

I just want to say, don't over think it. If you're looking to buy simple shared hosting, then any of the hosting companies mentioned in this thread will most likely suffice. Personally, I'd recommend InMotion. If you look up their reviews, you'll see many consider them among the best overall, and that their support is literally the best. I used to work for them, so I guess I'm biased  but I can say firsthand that they really care about the customer, and pay above average to ensure they have the best techs. But as I said, if it's just shared hosting, any well-known/reputable host will probably due.

Thanks to JunkFood for bringing this to my attention =) I know you make nothing buddy just need opinions from experienced members like yourself cheers!

@audioguy - Yes, I think I'll pass with dreamhost and defiantly pass with Hostgator - I've heard good things about bluehost and how things are really easy there so I shall be going for that =) thanks for the informative responses.

Any host that uses fantastico or scriptalicious would work. I like mediatemple and hostgator for cheap shared hosting (likely what you'll get in your price range). You can do a cheap vps from someone in the bst area though!

That's interesting thought it would be monthly. So they would transfer you if you need an upgrade onto VPS later on?

Hosting Rates (rates may vary from listed below if sale is offered):
    12 months = $83.40 ($6.95 per month rate)
    24 months= $142.80 ($5.95 per month rate)
    36 months= $178.20 ($4.95 per month rate)

Well everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I run 4 sites with them for 4 years now, only issue I ever had was when a DDoS hit the network where 1 of my sites were and it was out for a few hours while they resolved it.

To install WordPress from the panel its super easy to do and you can make custom tables or let it make everything for u.

You can easily request IP's, SSL, change DNS records, take advantage of their API to make your own DynDNS like to use your own domains.

1 of the sites I run with them is a heavy usage IPB forum with 23k members and its running without a single issue.

I also have hosting on hostgator, and other places but as a shared hosting service dreamhost has provided me the best service so far.

The above mentioned forum was at hostgator they cut me out on the first month.

    EDIT:

In addition, like some one above mentioned If you have some linux background go for a VPS or dedicated, OVH have a pretty good link but taking an unmanaged VPS/Dedi you must know linux or have someone whiling to do it for you.

I would suggest you to go to any hosting company that offers the most common cpanel.. If you find fantastico tool in cpanel of your hosting company, then i think its all you need..

I have some plans in place to obtain a good amount of traffic, so I need a reliable service not just any with a cpanel - thanks for your input anyway

Yes the forum is still on the shared plan, they haven't told me I need to upgrade yet nor I have had any issue with mysql having too many connections or memory consumed so I let it be as long as it is not slow or presenting any issues.

I also have VPS from then for 1 of the other sites I run, as I have a custom application running on it.

But then again, DH is my preference for shared hosting and everyone have their own opinions.

I use hostgator, it's pretty good as far as speed and the one click is simple.
