Best game recording software (+2 rep point solution)

Hi I record my video games using the FRAPS software and things look great 1080p the only problem I have is when I am recording some of my games they tend to lag, I don't mind a lag in the recording process but the lag is visible at the end product. I am looking for an alternative to FRAPS I can use to record quality videos without the lag on my end product, +2 rep points for whoever answers this question leading me to software I start using, thanks in advance for this it is appreciated.

Fraps most certainly the best even for you. Alternatives exist but nothing is really better, unless you want to shell out a lot of money and get a hardware solution which can record from the video output, which causes no additional load on the PC at all.

If you got little space and performance problems:

1) Reduce the resolution you are recording in (i.e. play the game at lower res)
2) Set Fraps to record half-size (which gives a stream that is only 1/4 of the full-size one).
3) Reduce the framerate Fraps records in.

If you still want your output to be in HD and dont want it to be lagged, all you need is to set FRAP's output folder to SSD(Solid State Drive) which dramatically increases writes/sec thus results in lag free High Definition Video. Thats what i did to fix lagging in my game videos.

btw, my SSD is an OCZ Revodrive X2 160GB

have you ever tried to record streaming? it will give a better user experience for your followers.

Excellent post concerning FRAPS I am already aware of these tweaks thanks to researching various youtube videos on FRAPS, I am sure this will help a great deal of BHW Members, I however was not aware of the hardware solution to record my video output or recording to a SSD, unfortunately I do not have the money for quite a solution I wish I did that would come in really handy.

I actually just tried Wegame.com before posting this thread and the video came out real choppy, went to options and switched over to HD Recording which states it may slow down gameplay only to find out you have to pay a montly membership. Thanks but no thanks, don't want to shell out money not knowing how smooth the video will come out.

Loving Camtasia, I thought it would be like Camstudio but it is much better, however I can't record audio for some reason.. this would be a perfect alternative to Fraps but I need to fix my audio problem first, thanks. If anyone can help me getting the audio fixed I would be glad to give you a quick thanks.

Livestream sounds like a good way to engage with your viewers live while recording but I am unsure about this option, anyone else with insight on this care to elaborate more on the subject, mainly about the quality of the videos, lag issues and how much editting of the videos is required since (i believe) you would have to navigate from screen to screen then edit these parts out of yoru video.

Edit: Fixed my audio problem with Camtasia it was not recording audio because I was saving to .avi so I saved it as the recommended settings then opened it with Camtasia Studio and produced it as an .avi worked fine and came out great no lag, same game was lagging in Fraps looks like I found my alternative.

Well about quality, for free members it's really poor but lag free (I'm using 1mbps internet connection and the delay was almost 0 (50ms+ I think) but as I said, quality is really poor. For paid membership you can stream HD videos which is GREAT for gamers community.
About editing videos, well you cant edit live but your game is recorded and they got a built-in editor for later usage which is quite good.

Set the brightness and contrast to max, point a camcorder to the screen. To compensate for the bad sound, capture only the audio output with software and merge both streams later. You get great framerate and the quality is pretty much the same (for online use) since making 500MB out of 5GB high def degrades the video anywayz.

Takes a bit of time playing with the zoom to focus on the monitor only but this is how the industry resizes real movies so you can try it too.
