Best free virus software? Well, the best ones are usually custom, if you know what you're doing. I've got a few sets of ASM/C codes for viruses of various potency, you can find them at some forums related to hacking and that sh't. Same goes for spyware software.

I can't provide a link, I don't want members here to get infected, unless they have a decent antivirus & antispyware, but that's a different topic.

some of the best free choices for anti-spyware apps are SpyBot S&D and Malwarebytes Anti-malware
Malwarebytes is a corporate class tool (there is a full, paid version as well - costs about 25USD, google a malwarebytes coupon code online if you need it) - it offers a large signature database and optionally IP blocker and scheduled scans and updates.
None of the free antivirus solutions I tried is even remotely decent - although Avast, Avira and AVG (not sure it's free though) are among the most popular.
I use a corporate AV solution (expensive) and I recommend you try to get a copy of something similar - there is a HUGE difference in quality and testing compared to most consumer products. Good luck!
