Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right place for the thread so move it if it isn't.

I don't have much knowledge about SEO. I know almost everything recommended for onsite SEO, but in offsite SEO I suck. I am developer and that's my way of earning money, but some passive income always comes in great!
For now I only have two sites, earning together aroun $40 per month (enough to pay for hosting :)

I have a wish to create an authority website. And to start off, I would like to research some nice keywords. Now, I am wondering, is there a free tool for analysing competition. Like, how hard it is to rank, amount of backlinks etc, some basic informations to give me insight about how hard will it be.

    Thank you for helping out!

From what I have tested so far, it works great! I might actually buy a licence.

    Don't forget:
The backlinks aren't the number of backlinks you'll need to get ranked. Those are not from google, but from independent sources. Take it with a grain of salt. And some pizza. Use them for comparison, not as an absolute value.

Don't go for sites with google places, google images, videos etc. Even if you rank #1, the CTR from SERPs will be shit.

Use this formula(roughly) to estimate earnings for all the keywords:
Exact search volume * CTR from SERPS for your position * 0.68(Adsense rev share) * CPC * CTR of Ads on your website
    Search Volume * 0.25(rough average estimate) * 0.68 * CPC * 2.5%

I have the CTR of adsense up to 8% on a couple of my sites and still get paid. 100% organic traffic though, and nothing shady, they're all legit.

Also, if you need a keyword research software, take a look at UNF(Ultimate Niche Finder). It has a money back guarantee so try it out. It's pretty awesome.

As for Traffic Travis pro, there are tricks to get free pro version. Google em up. ;)

serpiq is pretty awesome, I love it, but it's a monthly subscriptions, not worth it for a beginner or someone who does it on a small scale :/
