I have most of my sites hosted in South America, does that actually affect my ranking if my websites promote content for the US for example?
Interesting question cause I see local results most of the time when I google content.
    Thanks

It depends. Google is smart enough to determine the main language of the site, and therefore it will automatically geotarget the site (this may not be the best explanation in English, but I hope you'll get my point of view).
I have hosting at Hostgator and own a couple of site in Romanian. I've never experienced any rankings issues with sites hosted in US. NEVER. The whole ip affecting issue thing is just a big myth made by those who can't surpass their competitors.

I like to think that the hosting locatoin does matter, but not for the bigger companies out there.

For the bulletproof dedicated servers that are advertised... the ones built specifically for bh apps and such, probably not a good idea to run your website from.

From an SEO standpoint however, location doesn't matter physically
