You aren't allowed to ask so don't. I always assume they were up to some shady shit in DMs.

OT: Isn't this already done, sort of? I often see @MisterF wishing people a good vacation :D

If a person has deceived this one, it is quite another if he, unwillingly, in a hurry, could break the rules. I think this feature will be very useful for beginners.

Some banned members are on other forums selling their services and pretending to be gurus. Knowing why they got banned here would help a lot. That is one of the reasons I see :)

No need for any synopsis. If a person is banned, they are banned for a good reason. Everyone who joins this forum agrees to abide by the rules.
There is more seen behind the scenes ( as mentioned by @belg ) than in the open, and some members seem to think collecting warnings is a badge of honour.

    10. INFRACTIONS AND BANS.

Although Black Hat World does not have the ability to police the Site, our administrators and moderators reserve the right, but do not have any obligation, to issue infractions or bans as they see fit. If you receive 3 infractions on this forum, you be permanently banned from the Site.

I'm also part of another forum that does exactly this. The thread posts are like:

    User: SEOZack
    Ban expiration date: 5 days/permanent/etc
    Reason: mod abuse/discrimination/etc

Often times with a quote of the offending post.

Who knows, maybe they do have a thread like this in this forum for admins/mods only.

I'll say this and then take a walk with Google, Bing and Teedie.

If a person is banned it was not done without reasonable thought and almost always with consult with another staff member unless there is an egregious ToS violation.

People that violate the ToS on a regular basis end up losing the opportunity to be a member here.

People who go well past the line lose the opportunity to be a member here.

To place the member in a category is hard as usually there are multiple infractions over a period of time that are different.

Jr Vips need to get approved to get banned actually so if a Jr Vip is banned it came from upstairs.

Easy way to avoid that is to not be a jackwagon and to follow these simple rules - https://www.blackhatworld.com/help/terms

Once in a blue moon I'll share with someone why someone was banned but my usual response is why would you want to be involved with someone who can't follow those simple rules.

I was banned a few years ago for going against the seller.

I bought software from him. It had a virus. Use virustotal Told the seller mistake number 1

    Wrote a shit list thread.

The seller sent a clean copy to mod.

Reason banned. Making false accusations against trusted member.

No banned court or anything like that.

It was I think a week or month banned

I check the software again at that it had a virus

So mods are not always right when they banned.

Not trying to start a war btw

It was about 4 or 5 years ago

I could not even tell my side of story.

So maybe make a ban court instead of having 1 mod ban somebody

There is at least one person who has a publicly listed reason for their ban, so there's apparently no strict rule of secrecy.
    https://www.blackhatworld.com/members/?type=positive_ratings

Even if the stated reason is vague, knowing that reason could help others who had previous dealings with them.

For example, if I had an ongoing subscription with someone who was banned for basic community violations, I would know that I'm not in any immediate direct risk while finding an alternative. If that person were banned for scamming, I would cancel the service immediately and make sure there's no lingering financial ties. And if that person were banned for spreading malware, I would restore known-good backups and manually check everything over.

As things stand today, the person banned for spreading malware is not visibly distinct from the person banned for selling outside of HAF one too many times. Even if announcements were only in extreme cases like scamming, spreading viruses, etc, where there could be a issues even after cutting the business relationship, it would save a lot of time and effort rather than having to guess about the lingering risks.

Seeing a username has been banned should be signal enough that the person was doing something hooky on the forum and therefore hopefully would make people more wary about dealing with this person if they use the same username on another forum.

I think the mods on BHW have more than enough policing to do and adding another level of administration will only distract them from concentrating on and finding users who come to this forum to con people out of there hard earned money.

The mods must ban hundreds if not thousands of accounts a day due to silly little things like spamming the forum or some shit like that. Even if they had a quick way of entering the reason for a ban it would take them many hours to get through the list.

With many of the shitlist incidents starting off on BHW as the first point of contact and then drifting onto a platform nothing to do with this forum such as Skype. At least BHW provide a very useful platform for people who have been wronged to bring their evidence to the forum and for the accused to explain themselves.

This idea in the mind looks like a good idea but out in the real world I think it would be an administrative nightmare.

I don't think any of us would hold back as to telling you or any one else if there was a scam involved.

If so I should get punched in the neck.

That link to the banned member does not tell the whole story, just the last warning he received so it is actually not public info.

Compiling a handful of warnings will cause one to get banned and the last one is what shows there and not all the others as one warning does not usually get on e a ban unless it is an extreme event.

That being said, should one need to know because they are doing or have done business with the banned member we will work with those that request to an extent but won't violate our oath as staff members.

Heck, a bunch of us spend more time than we should helping out to keep the place clean and another few minutes helping out via PM on a situation like that is not going to kill us.

one of the interesting thing about this forum is ability for the site owner and moderators to weed out scammers and trollers. within the blink of an eye. i agree with this i once became curious as to why @mickyfu was banned https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/why-was-mickyfu-banned.1120143/ never knew why. it will help us know who to work with or if a user ended being unbanned it won't jeoperdize his/her reputation and credibility on the forum. especially seeing newbies are quick to deal with users who have been here for long. as they say even the devil was once an angel.

If you're on a need to know basis (e.g. you have an ongoing order with the banned member), you can contact a mod. If you're just generally curious, you can't. Bans aren't meant to be discussed publicly.
