This is my first journey, and first real money making project! I will be creating an Amazon affiliate site which will earn money through the Amazon Affiliate programme and Google Adsense.

I am sure most of you know how these kind of sites work, if not, I will explain the overall goal briefly. The aim of affiliate sites is to create a site dedicated to a niche, post high quality non-affiliated content as well as high quality affiliated content which aims to push visitors to Amazon using your affiliate link.

What have I done so far?
  • Found a niche to target
  • Initial keyword research
  • Bought a domain and setup my site
  • Setup social media

What do I have to do next?

  • Write my SILO parent posts
  • Write 10+ high quality articles, distributed throughout my SILOs and sub-categories
  • Make my site public
  • Start using social media and other sites (Quora, Reddit, etc...) to drive initial traffic

FAQs

How are you planning to monetise your site?
Amazon Affiliate programme and Google Adsense.

What registrar/host/CMS are you using?
Namecheap for my domain, DigitalOcean for my hosting and Wordpress for my CMS.

Do you use a content structure?
Yes, I will be using SILOs to structure my content, plenty of guides here on BHW and Google.

What is your niche?
Ofcourse, I won't give you my niche... but it is something within the Sports/Hobby niche

What theme do you use?
GeneratePress, it is very lightweight and fast.

What plugins do you use?
I use the popular plugins most people have talked about and suggested such as Yeost, WPRocket, WP-Optimize, CleanTalk, etc...

If you have any questions or want to chat about this method, feel free to reply or get in touch!

Good luck with your journey, it seems like you have no many costs for creating it so if amazon and google pays you good you will have, what i call it, easy money.

Yes, my initial costs are very low, I paid $10 for a domain and I have a $50 voucher for DigitalOcean (I am using a $10/mo server) using a student account. I will start to invest in outsourcing content and SEO packages further into the journey. I have seen many suggestions to take it slow for the first couple of months and focus on high quality content while the site is still in the Google sandbox.

About google adsense, i think that country you live matters. I live in greece and adsense pays lower than USA

I would have thought the amount you get paid would depend on the traffic and the ads displayed, I live in the UK anyway, so hopefully rates are good. Once traffic hits a certain point I will start looking at other ad agencies that provide better rates.

Good luck with this journey. If you do anything that you think it could be helpful for others to know, post it here. ;)

Prior to this, have you made affiliate sites before
How much you planning to invest before you turn green

No, this is my first affiliate site and first proper online money making project, once I start to see results I have money to invest in quality back links, but creating quality authority content is more of a long game, so I’m not looking to invest in SEO yet.

Update:

I am currently writing content for my homepage and SILO top pages, hopefully I will have them all done by the end of the weekend and then I will start on articles and reviews.

I have finished my Wordpress site with all the plugins I currently need, I am happy with the look and layout and have achieved good scores with GTmetrix.

Question: How important is adding high quality SEO optimised content to a niche blogs homepage? I know it’s important for pages I want to rank, but I’m thinking the homepage will rank naturally as internal pages rank and push up the root domain authority. Thoughts?

Update:

Not much to update about, still in the process of adding the initial articles to my website. Once I am happy with the number of articles I will index my site and start working on building initial traffic as well. I have decided to slightly narrow my niche, allowing me to focus on adding high-quality content without spreading myself too thin, to begin with.

My aim is to have 10+ articles and 5+ buyers guides/money pages by the new year, this works out at about an article every 2 days. Researching and writing high-quality articles isn't too hard for me, however, I work full time so the amount of time I can commit to researching, writing and publishing articles is limited.

If anyone is interested in how I am researching/writing my articles, I am first looking through my competitor's articles and finding articles that will suit my niche and will drive initial traffic (topics covering the whole niche, rather than specific products). I also plan to use Google autocomplete and recommended searches as well as Reddit, Quora, and niche-forums to find popular questions. For writing, I am using Grammarly to ensure the quality is high and to also check for plagiarism.
