Hi -
I think I need a little guidance in what is and isn't good etiquette here - and would appreciate any suggestions.
I've been lurking at BHW (and occasionally posting when I thought I could offer something constructive) for a while now.
In the last week, I've posted a couple of fairly basic but "interesting" questions in what I believed were the appropriate forums - and have had no real responses.
The reasons behind my questions: I've spent many years in the adult world, and I'm trying to get a handle on some of the things that are very different in the mainstream BH world.
I'm not asking what I think are horrendously laughable questions - and I don't think I'm asking anyone to reveal anything sensitive in any way.
For example, this week I asked a general question in the hosting forum about hosting companies and tolerance for things like link spamming. I got no answers. After a few days, I posted a more specific question about dedicated servers, and IPs/class C's - and again, got no answers.
I wasn't trying to uncover anyone's secrets, and I wasn't asking "um, what's all this stuff about servers - do I need one of them thingies?"
I just come from a side of the online world where I automatically get a separate IP for every domain on my dedicated boxes - and where I'd immediately be terminated by my host for link spamming. So I'm trying to gather some basic information.
But since no one is responding, I'm guessing that I'm doing something wrong in terms of BHW etiquette or something.
Can anyone help me figure it out? I've been a long-time member/poster on nearly every adult wm board out there, but I'm obviously shooting blanks here :p
Thanks :)

The problem your facing is that the answers are already answered on various forums tons of times a day, and people just get numb to answering the same questions over and over again. Put some effort into the searches you do (or start searching) and you will find your answer a few hundred times over.

Good luck.

people here are happy to help. but only if they think you are helping yourself. i try to answer questions whenever i can but as jcsarokin said you get sick of answering the same things. plus it seems when a reputable member asks a question versus a newbie more people tend to answer the reputable member because they have contributed themselves to the forum. that's my observation.

Thanks. I certainly understand that - in the places I've spent the last decade, people would usually post and say "go away, moron - try doing a search." lol (not to me - they'd say it to the newbies on that side of the world) It's the silence I'm not accustomed to.
I've done searches on those topics and come up with nothing that specifically addressed my questions, which is why I posted them. If that info is out there, it must be my searches - I'll try refining them more.

I think its a variety of things. The first might be there if you were more established you would get a response quicker but not always the case, also, it might be a repetitive question asked, thirdly, some members have different temperaments and lastly when you ask your question or anyone does it could be at a time when someone is busy so if you combine all those factors with what some of what the members above have stated it could have contributed to not someone answering your question or anyone else for that matter.

That all makes sense - thanks. I think what surprised me was the huge difference between here and the adult boards I've been on for many years; the dumbest of dumb questions over there would probably get at least 5-10 responses just by accident. The responses I've gotten here, help.

(And on a related note - I've spend well over now, searching and going through threads just to look deeper on my hosting questions. I've sort of come up with an answer to the BH question, although it's just by inference from a bunch of different posts. I still haven't found a single reference to anything close to my question about IPs and class C's - so I really don't know that it's a matter of "we've answered that question so many times before" - I'll just keep plugging and hope that someone might answer it for me.)
