As the title says. I have been doing IM 10+ years full time I want to get a job and don't know where to start. I never pursued a degree in anything although I do have some college credits accumulated. I have 10+ years experience doing this and just don't know how I would put that on a resume. Maybe I could use a resume writing service. Does anyone know of any good ones?

Any kind of advice would be nice. I'm a little intimated by the whole thing. I love doing IM and will never quit but I feel like I'm missing out on part of life by sitting at home all of the time. I want to see the world a little, maybe get some decent health insurance. :D

    What would you do?

Check out craigslist for marketing jobs. You could get a job doing some type of marketing since you have 10 years of experience doing it.

Depends what you've done in your 10 years of IM. What kind of skills have you learned over time? Database, Web Development, Graphics Design, Lead Generation, Customer Service, etc

At one points I was half way to being a millionaire. I've had my ups and downs. With the economy decline it just feels like more downs than anything. Also in my younger days I was more willing to be unethical. As I've grown so has my conscience I think so making a dollar has gotten a little harder.

As for experience. Flipping a few sites, Wordpress implementation, Joomla, web development, some graphic design, lead generation, managing websites and their affiliates, mailing list managment, social networking, customer service and managing employees for sure, managing servers. I've pretty much done everything online.

Can anyone suggest a good resume writing service?

Working on networks, or doing network security would be cool.

Sorry don't know of a resume service but his thread seemed kinda open ended not just asking for resume service. Just an FYI, the lounge doesn't increase post count.

As for the OP, you seem to have learned quite a few skills. I asked what skills you've learned because without an education those are the next best things to list on your resume. It will also help you narrow down a career you want if you haven't already. You mentioned networking or security that's a tough field to get into without certifications. Would you be willing to pursue schooling for certifications? Not to be a downer, but I have plenty of friends with engineering degrees that can't find a job so without any degree/certification it's going to be tough. I did the 9-5 thing and went full time on IM and don't ever think I could go back. The 9-5 has plenty of benefits such as insurance, stable income, and physical interaction with people but can't give it up for being my own boss.

I think that if you have any reasonable income already (well, since you have been doing IM for 10years) you should start your own business. :)

I have some credits. I took a few computer based classes and did very well including a Network + course. Certification would probably just entail me catching up and taking the tests. A+ certification probably wouldn't be too hard to get either. I'm pretty good with computers.

That a consideration. Working 9-5 and coming home to my family sounds really nice though. Call me crazy.

I've had good success with http://resumetointerviews.com/
It's expensive, I suppose, but it's obviously worth it if you land a good job.

But there's work involved. You have to answer a bunch of questions and do a few back and forth email exchanges. In the end I got a nicely formatted resume. I'm pretty sure it helped me land my current job, but it could be coincidence I guess.

I don't mean to sound like a promo, I'm not affiliated with them at all. Good luck man.

Try joining an SEO agency. Or even better, start an SEO agency. Go out..get clients. This way you will be "social" as well as will be doing what you love to do - IM.

Question: Do you think that IM has become less profitable after Panda/Penguin? Or is it still as effective (I mean..link building, KW stuffing etc)? I am asking this because I am in the opposite route: I want to start IM full-time. Any thoughts?

It is the time when the strong will shine and the weak will vanish. Market clean up, more or less.
Link building still works, KW stuffing on the other hand... that lost its effectiveness long long time ago.

As for OP, social part of 9-5 is the only thing what I'm missing. So I do understand you in that sense. Maybe I can refer you to my writer. Don't know how good she is writing resumes but wouldn't hurt to ask.
