I came across multiple threads here and noticed the same depressing questions and worries over and over again.

    "Oh its saturated"
    "My town is small"
    "People already doing this"

Stop procrastinating. Stop those bullsh*t and just dive right in and TAKING ACTION. Nothing will ever going to happen if you just sit there and wait for opportunities to come (and there wouldn't be). If you aren't doing it, someone will.

So here are some commonly found excuses and my personal opinion on them:

"I live in a small town with low population. I don't know if I should start."
If you don't try, you won't know and you will regret. Businesses in small towns/cities need advertising too right? So why wouldn't you give it a try?

"This method has already been 2 years, it's probably too late and saturated by now."
I can't stress enough on this. Take action. If you don't start, you won't know. New businesses are being registered each day, and there are more and more business owners being acknowledge the importance of online branding & reputation. Sure, they might not know or interested in ORM 2 years ago, but that doesn't mean they won't today, seeing their competitors are doing better than them. Or perhaps, they will jump on it immediately now, noticing how they have XX negative reviews and felt the negative impact. They need to be SAVED!

"It's just too much work and mailing is expensive in my country."
Are you kidding me? You want to launch a successful business and not willing to invest a tiny bit? Online reputation management probably has the lowest overhead expense in comparsion to others. Even less than SEO, because you don't need SeNuke or SAPE or GSA or even captchas! All you need is to sell, and get those 5-stars reviews & rating for your client using THEIR traffic.

Just look around in your city and think about those local brick & motar startups. Their overhead investment is probably at least $xx,xxx (contract lease, hiring employees, insurance etc.); while yours could be just $XX! So your investment in starting an ORM service is NOTHING, and will have a much higher chance to succeed in comparison.

"I know someone is already doing it in my city, I don't think I can compete."
Competitions are everywhere and in every niche or industry. Even if you are the first person who started it, someone will eventually jump in and compete with you anyways. Just take action and go from there. No one can DOMINATE the entire city. Its easier said than done. Here is the key; BE HONEST & BE RESPONSIBLE to your clients and give them your best. Grow and mind your own business.

"I suck at selling / I am too young / I have a pussy voice / My English is no good."
Practice is key. If you suck, then practice more. If you need help, go join your local club such as toastmaster or whatever. You can't suck forever.

So what's the requirement? Take action. Start today. Stop procrastinating.

Absolutely true. Plus that some people also think in very negative terms... Thinking positive will do 50% of the desired project in terms of attitude.

I always tell people the biggest deterrent to starting a successful business is themselves. The most successful people in the world have failed 99% of the time. It's that they had the balls to try in the first place and keep trying until they found success.

Damn right. I could care less if you come from a town with two bars and a church. One of those bars needs a website or help ranking that website. Anyone interested in taking action in any town should be able to spend an afternoon with the local yelllow pages, google and facebook and draw up a red hot list of targeted valid leads.

OP, all those excuses you gave are made by lazy people afraid to take a chance that they might be able to improve their lives.

To paraphrase you, I say to those people : Don't Take action. Don't Start today. Stay procrastinating

(More Business for those people that are prepared to take action and deserve their success)

People who do not want to work and become something will always look for an excuse to rationalize themselves out of
opportunity and you are not going to change that.

I absolutely agree. I read the 22 letters post for the first time last week and fell in love with the idea. It has been on my mind ever since. The very next day I started on my mission to create a successful business and have taken small steps everyday. At my current rate in achieving small goals each day, I should be in business and making money by next week. Just dig in and DO IT... don't talk about what you are GOING to do. It doesn't work because nothing ever gets done.

Good luck to all those who are taking action!

Exactly. Just dive right in and other things will follow.

Just the "lean marketing" approach. Don't wait till everything is 100% perfect before taking action. Instead, set it as small milestones, and go from there.

I read somewhere, should be easy to find with a google search, that if you keep your goals to yourself and dont go telling people your plans you are much more likely to succeed, this is because when you tell someone and they say how great it is a part of your brain feels rewarded and you are then less likely to carry on with the idea and you already feel a sense of achievement.

    or something like that.

    Nice post, mate.

Sometimes we set our own boundaries, as sometimes they are limiting ones.

Try to think about the abundance of possibilites and you will be much more creative and productive and eventually - your results will get better.

Awesome post! It's true... what you believe to be true USUALLY IS. Meaning if you think the market it saturated, it is. If you don't think this will work, it won't. If you don't believe you will succeed from the start you NEVER will.

When you are hit with adversity, hit so hard you fall down... will you have the heart to get back up on your feet if you didn't believe you could do this from DAY ONE? No, and that's why people quit or don't even start at all!

The truth is it's easier to complain than to take action. Why? It's more comfortable and we are a creature of habit by nature. People hate trying new things because they are scared to fail. What they don't realize is failure is the recipe to success.
