If I bought a PR4 domain and it had active backlinks, wouldn't the backlinks disappear over time?
Wouldn't that PR4 page rank diminish? What is the point of buying high PR domains and build a blog on it if they slowly lose their page rank?
Can you explain how this works?

If you don't know the answer to this question, you're probably not ready for a private blog network yet.

The point is use it to rank all your sites quickly and make money.

SEO is dynamic. Sure the page rank will disappear as links drop off, but before that happens, you would have ranked a bunch of websites using them, make back your money + more, and invest it into even more/stronger blogs to add to your network. And the stronger your network gets, the tougher the niches you can rank in = the more money you can make. Repeat and scale up.

Make sure you learn how to build a proper safe blog network before you invest all your money into it. But like I mentioned in the first sentence, if you don't know how to use it, you're probably not ready for it yet. Read about seo, backlinking, and how to make money first.

To answer your original question: yeah, you probably lose those old backlinks over time.

The good news is you can build new backlinks to that domain and keep (or increase) the PR.
Or, drop the domain when PR disappears and get a new one. But then you lose the posts on it.

It depends what kind of backlinks it has. But still it will lose some as time passes. That's why you should keep building relevant links.
