WTF. I literally just got denied on a stupid application for a Bank of America checking account. So I called my old bank and they said I have owed them $56, that they shut down my account and that the only way for them to be able to reinstate my account is to call this collections agency called ARM and pay.

Ok amazing right, but now I have no where to put my money.

Is there any bank that would accept me? I researched online and a bunch of sites were saying that when you apply for a new checking account, they are able to somehow always check your history through a company called Chexsystems or something.

    What should I do?

charter one has a second chance program, or use a prepaid debit and call the number the bank should provide it. Im surprised boa denied you, you must not have tried to make a large enough initial deposit

If you call the Debt Collection Agency up and ask for your ref number and the account they want the money paid into, then you can just take the cash to a Bank and pay it in.

You won't be able to open another account until you have paid it because the new Bank will check your details with a Credit Reference Agency.

Not sure how it works where you are, but in the UK you can get a 'basic account' which doesn't require a credit check. Might be something to look into.

You really should just pay the $56 though

Hmm. What about prepaid cards and a PayPal? Will I still be able to do business with Clickbank and different affiliate networks?

I'm in the same boat as you, the bank allowed me to overdraft then tacked on unnecessary fees that I do not feel like paying, so I just use paypal and prepaid cards.

You can go to a walmart, pick up a bluebird amex card, and use it as your bank. Reloading at walmart is free and the account has a checking and account # for direct deposit and bank transfers.

Or you could go to a 711 and pickup a prepaid paypal mstrcard, link it to your paypal account, and instantly transfer money from your paypal account to your paypal prepaid card.

How about you screw up your entire credit history report for a scabby $56 ? even if you do open an account somewhere else that shit will follow you around for years. Money rolling in decide to finance a new car for yourself.......no sorry your application was declined......because at some stage in your life you left a financial organisation short.

Just pay the $56 as pointed out earlier in the thread you dont need a bank account to pay money into somebody elses account you can walk into a bank and fill out a checking/lodgement slip and then you are done.

About 4 years ago I was in a tough situation. I took advantage of my Bank of America checking account to get $600 from their overdraft system. Didn't have the money to pay them back, so they closed the account after a couple months and put me on ChexSystems and the other bank systems I forgot the names of.

A month later, I tried opening a few bank accounts. The one bank that accepted me was Suntrust. It's a full on checking account with debit card and everything. I've read of most banks performing routine checks every few months or so to see if you're on ChexSystems, and then close your account abruptly. Well, it's been 4 years, and I still have my Suntrust account.

It's always better to pay off the debt or as you said, chexsystem is what is used by all banks in the states to see the history of the bank account holder. This can affect your credit score in the future as well. $56 ain't a big deal mate!
