The shocking story of the rise and fall of one of Instagram’s first super-influencers. By 23, Australian wellness guru Belle Gibson had cultivated an adoring global following online with the story that she had successfully treated her own terminal cancer by eating a plant-based diet and using alternative natural therapies. But there was one problem with Belle’s story: she had never had cancer.

Seen through the eyes of those who adored her and those who exposed her, this film lifts the lid on one of social media’s great mysteries: who was the real Belle Gibson – an ingenious con artist or damaged young woman trapped in a lie?

It's about branding and positioning... She positioned herself as a wellness guru with a battle against the evil cancer... it's like a storytelling... sometimes I am disgusted to be a marketer because it's a powerful tool if use with evil intentions and a lot of people understand that...

I saw too many shit like that with tricks to turn prospects into customers and it's a lot easier to lie and mislead people than to be honest, just check crypto scams and dating scams and you understand what I mean.

The story is not surprising to me, no ethics, a bad intelligent person like there are too many in this world.

I might get around to watching it then. Thanks.

Sadly money over morals for some.

I don't use Social Media. Its too fast to handle.

Guess I'll have to watch this. She's the ultimate black hat

Some fitness influencers were accused of editing images of transformational journeys. Just so they could sell more supplements.

No ethics in this area.

Well, the only thing i can say about this is nothing special as half of the internet is based on a lie and this case is no different than any of clickbanks offers.

Awful deceit. Why I don’t trust all that shit and only take notice of my oncologist and continue the chemo drug

The worst is that this is not illegal, I think it was the message with the images that made them in trouble.. not the images... it was the "girl lose 50kg in 2 days with our program" :D :D

IT's very common people doing that online now such as an Indian guy who claimed he trained Steve Jobs on programming before at the time he was like aged 14

That sounds way worse than any e-whore method.
Playing with people emotions when it comes to health... it is too much for my stomach.

yet your'e promoting parkers very moral gambling pbn links. :D :D

I’m going to turn to the dark side. Unlike her I can prove I have cancer. I’ll claim to be cured by eating 5 packets of crisps a day and make millions.

Joking of course but she must have given other people ideas to try the same path. Many will stoop to any low for money.

Saw one Instagram influencer in Germany, she would always start a live stream when she would get a panic attack and anxiety. Imagine this...sitting in your car, getting a panic attack...and the first reaction is: get your phone, open Instagram, start a live stream. Its such a scam. and absolutely ridiculous

I don't know about that one. These people are truly strange. They could be in a life-threatening situation and the first thing they think about is posting about it online, maybe taking a selfie talking about how it's so devastating (while its happening). Social media really did a number on people that grew up with it...
