    Quick question.

Say my site has a backlink to a subdomain. Does that still count toward my site's total backlinks?

    Thanks for any answers.

Sure! In yahoo´s site explorer you´ll only have to select: "show links from all pages" and in googles webmastertools it automatically displays (and counts) all the subdomains that are being linked to.

In fact I would really advise you to create backlinks to subdomains as well, since this looks a lot more "natural" than only having backlinks linking to your main page.

When did this change? Everything i've ever read has said that subdomains are treated as a completely different domain when it comes to, well, everything regarding SEO.

    Thanks for the update.

Sub domains are still treated like different domains but he said to make links to sub domains just so whole link building campaign looks natural...

Hey chockomonkey, as bizroot already said, I´m doing this to let it look way more natural. The biggest mistake would be to create all backlinks to my homepage with all the same anchor text... This smells totally fishy to google!!

But you are correct, subdomains are treated as a completely different domain, but you can create some linkjuice from there by linking back to your homepage.
