Okay, so a competitor site recently jumped me in the SERPs out of no where - and has been holding this spot for at least a month. I found out his blog used to be part of a huge blog network (probably as a subdomain) where every other blog had a sidebar of links to the other blogs on the network. Now that he's got his own domain name and changed to a standalone self-hosted wordpress blog, G00gle is still showing all of those old links (nearly 15,000 relevant backlinks) when i do a "link:hxxp://domaindotcom" search. Is this just because G hasn't indexed all of those backlinks to find that the links no longer exist? I suppose I risk actually improving his current positioning on the good links though. (Do people still "bomb" sites to drop competitor rankings?) If I start indexing his backlinks using some service, is it possible he'll lose positioning?
