I recently did well using this forum of genuis to create backlinks and ended up 3rd in G for a keyword NOT in my URL ...

Now I am on the second page... - it could be the dance? But I doubt it...

We have recently re launched the site completely and re submitted a site map etc...

Do I need to keep working on Backlinks all the time to maintain a healthy position? Or has G realised that my previous ranking was inaccurate and marked me down?

Don't quality backlinks get stronger with the time passing? I think your ranking problem has to do with changing your site structure, content, etc.

I think your ranking problem is because most of your backlinks has been deleted because its from forums and blog commenting or any web 2.0.

If your going to use those methods ensure that your links sticks a long time.

Yes, they lose value because they are lossing PR and many of them are deindexed

A quality backlink will improve over time but low quality links like spammed blog posts tend to disappear eventually. Any change to the structure of your website could have affected your SERPS.

I recommend continuing to build your backlinks and get your site ranking again.

I'm in the camp that backlinks gain value over time. Your SERP drop is probably from links going away...
