I use spyglass in order to find backlinks.
I noticed sites have a backlink on 1000's of different irrelevant content sites (just a small link in the footer).
May there are only 3 links in the footer. Again, the link is irrelevant to the topic.

If I scan 1 of these footer links. This link gets a high linkvalue out of it.
These sites do only linkbuilding like that and get a good PR.

How people get placed there, do they buy these links, if so where to the buy them?

Sorry, my English is not that good.
But I hope you guys understand what i mean.

of course they are bought links or...
links to a network of sites owned by the owner of the site with footer links in it.

in the latter, only a newb would not mark them nofollow and if gamed, the whole thing falls down like a house of cards when detected.

    one more thing to add

if you got a link pointing to site A with the anchor text, dog food
if you then have further links on the same page with dog food links below the first instance, google is going to place less emphasis on those links, if not even ignore them. if dog food link is in the header, left sidebar, or anywhere first before your footer dog food link, you are tossing your money down the drain. this occurs a lot on niche sites where the keyword and links occur often.

A lot of those footer links will be coming from sape.ru and other lesser known Russian link exchanges.

That's right, most probably it's from sape or similar network.

I suggest that you maintain what you have done to your website to have that ranking. Be well updated because Google updates it's algorithm from time to time which makes ranking change. Having a website that rank well in the Google search engine is a great opportunity to be visited by target visitors. This means more traffic, more customers, more income.

Just as a warning to others. I visited that site this morning for the first time. Ever since then the IP address at my office has been blocked by spamhaus blocklist due to malware. I can't remember the exact malware, but it was a Win32 issue which after googling has been associated with many .ru extensions.

Everything seems ok now I have had the IP delisted, but just to warn you all as I can't think of anything else that may have triggered the warning and it certainly coincided with the time spamhaus gave me when the issue started.

Not really compared to the price on sape plus they don't have nearly anywere close to the number of sites compared to sape, in serpzilla the minimum price for a link (pr1 btw) is 1 euro which is around $1.29 and as I said thats just pr 1! When the PR gos up so does the price....
