I have got a whole bunch of tumblr blogs with good metrics. I was thinking how google would consider backlinks coming from those tumblr blogs? They will be coming from diff. sub-domains but same root domain (tumblr).. So google would consider it backlinks from different websites or G will stop counting links after a certain limit?

I think it will count as 1 link only as it comes from same IP/Server.

More or less. Nothing is black/white or exact when it comes to Google. 2 links are, in my experience, always better than 1. Even if it's just 0.000001% better in some cases :)
