Does anyone think there would be any bonus from backlinking our images along with url they are on?

Or maybe set an 301 from img files to page parent and backlink them?

    lol why.

    1. images build content revelance.
    2. images index.
    3. nobody does seo for images so it will be easy to rank them, therefore we will have bunch of related images in top1.

our serp position depends on overall website relevance and condition so
the more sites related to some niche we have top 1, the more likely we are to rank on dat niche

    and eventually
    4. generally the bigger quality of sites we link to from our page is, the more it will help us to rank/the less it will break the rankings
    5. now I am not sure if image is considered as link, because we cant link to spammy, penalised sites or it will lower our rankings, so following this logic, if we can't link to images hosted on penalised websites, then images do count as links.
    6. we include images on our page, which means we link to them, so if they are boosted with backlinks they are more considered as high quality and not fresh

if you link from a fresh website to plenty of other fresh websites, it will have trouble to rank comparing to a fresh site that only linked to wikipedia in their niche.

of course, this applies to website with same ip too. if you link from a page A internally to a lot of internal pages, it will lower page A ranking. Unless you do the opposite.

I generally include a lot of images, which could be considered as internal links

Yes you can get good traffic .

You watermark the images and upload them to known services .

This has been going on for years and works.

On the bio is where you add your own url , that gives you the backlink to the image from there website.

There is plenty of really high indexed and known image websites these days.

And yes this type of backlinking does increase indexing postion.

If you are talking about ranking them in Google image search, that would depend on the niche. I'm pretty sure ranking 1 for porn related terms would bring in serious traffic. Also maybe other niches like cooking, would bring in decent traffic. But of course if your niche is gambling, then it is pretty pointless.

I had a quick look for a tool that could give the search volume for google images, could not find one. Do you know of any?

Am I the only one that read that as "fist fetish site"?

    As to OP:
You should work to rank your pictures in visual niches, like:
    Cooking
    Landscaping
    Design
    Porn
    Hot chicks/dudes/llamas
    Comics
    Cartoons

If I am working on an informational niche/post, I don't do too much for the pictures.

If I build an Infographic, I build some good backlinks to them, not just from the standard places, like:
    Flickr
    Pinterest
    Tumblr

But I also build basics like web2.0s and such, because I want to ensure it ranks in images.
I also take the steps of keyword naming it, alt texting it for a long tail keyword, adding a description of 150+ words with the keyword and LSIs in it.

I don't get a lot of traffic from my images, BUT I have gotten 5-10 visits from popular ones, and also it helps me build relevancy for my site.

Building links from images is a very good idea. I actually have seen some website ranking with very high competition using this strategy.
