*Don't ping xrumer/scrapebox backlinks as it seems utterly unnatural, let the search engines index them.
*Keep an average velocity in your link building strategy
*make a wide range of backlink types - Article directories/Xrumer/SB/Web 2.0 etc

Don't build links with the same 1 or two anchor texts to the same page. Vary it up with derivative terms.

    1) Don't blast with Xrumer/Scrapebox direct to your money site.
    2) Use your keyword as natural for example if your keyword is pets food shop then try to use this word in different manners like food shop for pets, shop of pets food and as same, because this strategy gives a natural link building look to Search Engine.
    3) Do not use different keywords on the same page for same pages of your site because it confuses the Search Engine.

My advice will be a bit different - be smart using tools like ScrapeBox, build your backlinks gradually starting with high PR and manual posts, follow with STEADY and SLOWLY BUILDING UP blasts, build some link pyramids with well spun articles and blast those. Just don't overdo it. You can blast your money site if you do it slowly and after you build some quality backlinks first.

Honestly, make things look as natural as possible, and be as random and diverse as possible.

Don't listen to most of what you hear on forums.

    Good Question. My best tip:

Use yourdomain.com as anchor text often. This helps things look natural because it's the way the average non-blackhat web site owner links to other sites.
