So, I've noticed some spammy looking links showing up is search console (tough not too bad metrics on the domain), I visited the pages and I was surprised to see that the links pointing to my domain are not there. Checked the source: nothing.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? How can this be? Should I disavow them?

Thanks for your help in advance.

If you run ads and remarketing campaigns they may have only been there for a short while. If the pages were blog index or category pages then your linking content might now be in the previous post archive. If the links are gone now then there is no reason to disavow... link removal is best outcome if you know you don't want the links. Keep an eye on it, but don't worry about it until you have concrete evidence that there is a problem. Links can be temporary for very legit reasons.

If you are paranoid get a plugin that lets you mimic googlebot and see if you are served different content from those pages... If they are cloaking then they would serve the public different content than they would googlebot, but I think googlebot tests for that already.

Oh okay I see. Well, I haven't run any ads or campaigns, but I'll dig deeper into this. I was just curious because I don't have too many links pointing to my site (just want the clean, slow and steady ranking growth) and I want to check the suspicious looking links that might harm my site. Anyway thank you for your comprehensive answer.

Could also be referrer spam... that is where people trick Google Analytics to think your website is getting traffic from a specific page but no link exists and the traffic is fake. They do this because hopeful webmasters will visit websites that appear to send them traffic. It is a sneaky way to trick people into visiting a website.
