    Hi,

lets just say that i want to rank for example for "payday loans". This is just an example!

I know the owner of the website that currently is is ranking for the main keyword "payday loans" on the first page. He agreed to give me a backlink from his website, even from the homepage. What kind of anchor text should i choose for such a precious link? Should I go for the exact match keyword "payday loans" or should i brand it "ABC-Company payday loans" or perhaps just the brand or url near the main keyword?

    Thanks!

    Whatever you like my friend.

I myself would go for exact match but any anchor text will do the job.

Exact match is possible, but the other option you mentioned: brand + exact is good too. Or you could drive sheer authority with site.com as anchor.

Go for exact match, but make sure to also get (on other websites) a few generic links such as domain.com and http://domain.com/

Exact match absolutely, but dont forget to get links from other sources with generics/naked/lsi anchors for diversity.

+1 for exact match, but as raikkonen and nodyguy said, make sure you also get a bunch of links with different anchor texts.
Only 1-5% of your backlinks should have exact match anchor texts.

The following worked well for me:

    Exact match 1-5% ("payday loans")
    Partial match 5-15% (eg. "loans")
    Branded anchor text 40-50% (yourbrand)
    Naked link 20-30% (eg. "https://yourbrand.com")
    Generic 15-25% eg. "click here")

And yeah, you might also throw in a few LSI anchors.

Some times branding keywords also work when one is thinking about exact match.
