Hello guys, is it just me or has anyone else noticed their sites backlink count go down since last night? a considerable amount of my backinks have dissapeared since yesterday on 2 of my sites - from around 70 to 30 on one, and 100 to 60 on the other. It seems to be a similar result when using either Market Samurai (which uses Yahoo Sitexplorer data), linkdiagnosis and backlinkwatch.com. Obviously it's kinda strange, but upon comparing the count to the competitions, I realised all of theirs had gone down too.. Clearly there's something going on with the way Yahoo SiteXplorer is choosing to display backlinks... I hope they're not going the way of Google's webmaster tools, who seem to do their best to confuse SEOs by showing only a small selection of a sites backlinks... hmmmm... any clues? - in fact could anyone recommend an app or online tool that shows a sites real backlink count more consistantly?
Yeah , just checked several of my sites with MS and most have dropped a lot. What's going on, I wonder.
it does happen from time to time I expect that next few day all backlinks will appear again. I have noticed that ~3 times in past 4 months.
Mate i was going to post the same thread.. i also noticed that. for one of my highly concerned site the banklincks dropped to 4K. And its happening to all of my sites.
You're probably right, I do seem to remember a similar thing happening a while back, and yep, many of the links did return eventually. Maybe it's just Yahoo updating their index... <edit> ah, so that explains it!
Your backlinks may have been removed from those old sites. My advice is to ignore the amount of backlinks and pay attention to your rankings. Are they rising? Falling? etc.
I wonder... regardless of the outcome this time, I've certainly noticed a consistant drop in counted links by both google and yahoo over the course of the last year - from directories and such like... I'm well aware those kind of links are not as valuable as they once were, but what confuses me is that many competitiors links on those very same sites are still being counted by yahoo, whereas mine are now not showing up... hmmm....
That's the kind of conclusion I've been coming to lately... fortunately in my case rankings are still on the up!
i went from 3000 backlinks to the homepage to 1400 =/ hopefully they're just redoing the counting system and not the whole algorythm.
I had this 2 days before. The backlinkcount was more than halfed on a couple of my sites. After some hours all was back to normal. Dont know the reason but didnt happen before...
I've yet to find any app or tool that consistantly shows all backlinks to a site - I'm not sure that one even exists... Apparently the paid subscription one on SeoMoz is pretty impressive, but never tried it. SiteXplorer always seems to show up the largest amount for now, but even so, webmaster tools still seems to count a few that SX doesn't... it's all smoke and mirrors, especially with Google... - at the end of the day it's best to focus rankings, and ultimately conversions really.
As i told no worries it is all back to normal. I also was kinda surprised to see today only 9K backlinks for one of my sites now back to 16K again
yep, it's all good - everything back to normal now, infact I'm now seeing considerably more backlinks than before the drop ;-)
