So there are all sorts of backlinks. Profiles, comments, directly to your site or link wheels, pyramids, pushes etc.

What I want to know is if there is a difference in any of them in the way Google ranks your site. Do comments get more "acknowledgement" then profiles? Does a link wheel get indexed faster then just direct links to your site?

How does google rank each backlink?

Thanks for all your help BHW!

    Hey

Backlinks vary on how much strength google puts in a backlink. A backlink from a pr6 site is going to have more power than a link from a pr n/a. You can rank a website with a number of high pr links, but google does differentiate between the links. Nobody knows how only the big G knows this.

There is big difference between count and quality))

All links is good, but there are situations when one link is worth ten thousand other links.

it still depends of how much authority the page your link is coming from. there are a lot of factors and we can only guess what are the most important factors are but one thing is for sure a backlink from a high authority site beats a great number of backlinks that come from crap sites

Yeah but for how long? When does quantity beat quality?
I feel like a lot of the questions I have are going to be left un answered because they are the wonders of google.

not really what im asking. its a given that higher pr's rank your site better. What i want to know is does a comment or a profile rank you higher? direct backlink or a backlink to a backlink.. Etc.

Actually there is an argument you need a blend from different sources in order to look nature to the SE's i.e. not the results of a IM campaign. Sources should include:

    • Guest Posts
    • Widgets
    • Infographics
    • Digg home page
    • .edu sites
    • Directories
    • Affiliate programs
    • Content syndication and others
This is from Search Engine Watch but I really wonder if the SE algorithms care about the blend or is Google Panda instead fixated on authority?

As berbaby says, its important to get a wide diversity of links to make it appear more natural to g00gle - and don't build up links too qucikly for a new site either - g00gle will spot it
