First, I would like to say what a great forum, and an excellent source of information, I am a complete newbie regarding all of this so my question maybe a stupid one, but then again as the saying goes, There are no stupid questions, Only stupid replies.

Q: With the updates Google is undertaking, Applying penalties to various marketing techniques, What would prevent a competitor from employing said techniques against it's competitor to get it dropped in search ranking.

Hope that makes sense, as stated above i am a complete newbie.

    Regards
    Daryl

Other than time, effort, and perhaps money probably nothing. It's been the biggest gripe in the SEO world since Penguin. Google has done quite a number to the search this past year and while still the behemoth they are now facing difficulties with both investors and the FTC.

Nothing stops people from doing that. Google is dumb.
