    Hey guys,

I just got back from an epic trip to New York City with my girlfriend. God I love that city....Central Park, the Empire State building, The Statue of Liberty, Macy's, Times Square, its awesome!

Who else loves the big Apple? I love how it is always buzzing, no matter what time of day or what day of the week. Everything is big, bright and commercial. :p

I spent quite a bit of my BH earnings down at Fith Avenue, Armani, Calvin Klein, hehehe. The shopping is fantastic, and the whole Christmas vibe everywhere is great.

If you're ever going to go anywhere, why not go the modernday Rome of the world? ;)

    Welcome back.

    New York huh? cool!!
When I'm able to start traveling again that's definitely on my short list of places to go.

I lived in England for a couple years back in the 1980s. Went to Edinburgh for New Years 1980. I've been to London, Paris, Brussels and of course many smaller cities in Great Britain and Europe. But here in the USA, I've still never been to New York.

Yeah I've never actually been to Europe yet, so I hope to go pretty soon. England, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany. I'll probably hit them all in one big trip. But apparently England is very expensive, as with the rest of Europe.. How much for a cup of coffee?

2-3 dollars for a beer in Belgium, we do not drink coffee we just drink beer! ;)
If you're gonna do a real eurotrip, don't forget Belgium (best beer and chocolates in the world) and Amsterdam (you can guess why)

Best city in the world - New York. Amazing women, amazing buildings, amazing shopping. Everything is so cool there. The thing that struck me the most was how fashionable the women were. They always seem to be dressed so impeccably, especially in Manhattan.

I didn't get to enjoy it much as I was a student who went from Boston to New York on a bus trip with $50 bucks in my pocket. :( - I did however go to the top of the empire state building though. Amazing sight - the height of civilization if you ask me, and I threw a penny from the top.

I will go back there someday, if Indian's are still granted visas in the future - lol

Yeah Belgium was pretty cool. I was living in Ipswitch and took a ferry across the channel to Belgium, hooked up with an English gal I met on the train, spent a day in Brussels just doing tourist stuff. Really a pretty city. Lots of Renaisance architecture around, everything felt kind of timeless. Then we took a train to Paris and spent a week there. Some students at the Universite de Paris smuggled us into the dorms so we had a place to crash. (Pretty wild for an American in 1980, never been to a place with coed showers before. LOL.) Then hitch-hiked to a beach in Spain and stayed there for a few days (topless women at public beaches was a novelty for an American back then too. LOL). Then hitched back to Paris and finally headed back to England from there.

Anyone here that's still young... I would highly recommend a backpack trip through Europe. It'd be even a bit different today than it was in the 80s, but probably even more cool because of laptops, smartphones and all the internet cafes you could stop at.

Sorry for hijacking your thread skagenweb. Mention of your trip just brought back some great memories for me. LOL

Did you get to see any plays on Broadway? I saw a special about a multimillion dollar production of Spiderman they've been working on. It looked pretty amazing so hopefully I'll be able to make a trip to New York after it opens.

So tell us more about your trip.

Yeah, I managed to see the Lion King on Broadway. $130 for midrange tickets. Was pretty good. I enjoyed it. Just like the movie.

Also got tickets to the Late Show with David Letterman and saw Reese Witherspoon being interviewed. Great fun and free! :D

I'm in England. It's not expensive at all nowadays, especially at the current dollar/pound exchange rate. Mainland Europe is expensive right now though - many Brits have had to give up their regular trips over there as it's just got stupidly expensive. How about $9 for a little cheese sandwich last time I went skiing in France two years ago!!
You could always go couchsurfing to keep the costs down though - couchsurfing (dot) com and stay with other BHers.

We recently took the 5 1/2 hour New York City day tour. It was excellent. Our driver was Ronnie and the tour guide was Laurie (Lori?) They were both very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. We purposely planned for the tour on our first day visiting New York in order to revisit areas later once we became acquainted with them on the tour. It was all and more than we had hoped for.
    Thanks for a super day.

Actually it's the other way around ;) England and the US got very cheap. It's just from which perspective you're looking. (I'm from mainland Europe)

OT: I want to go to New York next year, when is the best period to go? April-May?

The lion King on Broadway totally Rocks. I was wondering how they would pull it all off, but they did. It was fantastic - expensive as hell but well worth it. I read that the Spiderman preview didn't do well. Someone got stuck in the ropes and a guy broke both wrists during rehearsal. "Ouch". The producers from Circus du soleil are doing it. If they fix everything by the real premiere in January that will be kick-ass. Greywolf you will be just in time!!

I agree NYC rocks! Christmas in NY when it's not that cold is awesome. Glad you had a good & more importantly safe trip.

Awesome thread! I'm actually moving to NYC tomorrow. Yep, tomorrow! I'm stoked. Moving across the country.

I can't wait. I've been trying to get out there for some time now and things finally worked out to allow me to do it.

    Anyone else in NYC?
