You know, after enough time spent on the web you just don't think you'll stumble across anything really exciting. Well, I just did.

I've never delved into AutoBlogs before. I've read about them, thought about making one & just never liked the idea of having to make 300 sites to make $100 a day. I've got plenty of other sites that each make well over that amount so the effort didn't seem worth the reward.

However, it's 2:00am right now, and I'm just working on a couple things and breaking up the monotony of it by browsing the web....and I stumble across this little gem.

I'm not going to share the URL, don't even ask (and DEFINITELY don't PM me about it).

Anyway, it has got to be the absolute ugliest blog I've ever seen. There is not a single graphic anywhere and has the ugliest color to it. The background and text are the same color but with two different hue's.

Everything is a wall of text. Hardly readable...with the exception of the well placed AdSense ads. They stand out as very clearly readable amidst the haphazardly thrown text that exists EVERYWHERE.

What am I so excited about? A number of things.

I can see a working example (that actually gets traffic...lots of it) of where a good autoblog pulls it's content from (and it is definitely not the typical places). I simply put in quotes a couple of sentences from each "blog post" and I can see where the content is coming from.

I can see it's link structure...which is excellent, both to be able to see and to see how they did it...and how to replicate it.

I can see their backlink footprint. Where they're getting them, and even HOW they are getting them.

The point is, I already knew autoblogs work. However, now I can see that it doesn't take 300 of them to make pennies.

I live for finds like this one...gets me all excited.

I got a few and they are only making pennies for me but they are only a few months old and have done 0 backlink work on them so I can't expect much!

Aw, and I was hoping you could tell us what the site was :(

Any chance you could explain some of the techniques used?

They use AdSense as the "navigation bar" of the site. They don't "blend it in" to the site either. They actually have made it stand out. It is a completely different shade than the background and the text (although it is still the same ugly color...just much "deeper" in color). Either way, it makes it look like the navigation bar of the site.

They are using all in one seo pack 1.4.7.4 and interestingly enough, have made EVERY link on EVERY page do*follow. There isn't a single nofollow link on the entire site...not one. They have left the outbound links in the content they are stealing intact...still do*follow.

    Comments are disabled.

    Author information is disabled.

They are stat crazy. They've got google analytics & wordpress stats (plug in) both installed. They are working hard to make sure they know what their visitors are doing & where they're coming from.

The domain has NOTHING to do with the content....in fact, the domain has nothing to do with anything.

This blog is not meant for repeat visitors...nobody would come back to this blog of their own accord. It is meant as search engine food and SE food alone...nothing else.

They haven't messed with the content they are stealing at all, with the exception of removing images. The people that come to this blog are getting what they searched for, as everything is readable and intact.

They have 3 posts showing on their home page and 2 posts showing for each page of each category.

The name of each blog post is exactly the same as the title of where they pulled the content from.

    They've got TONS of categories.

The load time on this site is incredibly fast. I believe that is why they've removed images and are using the most basic of basic themes I've ever seen. Googlebot could read this whole site in probably under 5 minutes, and it's got 1,200 pages.

The domain was registered in January 2010, but their blog "archive" shows that they've had the blog since 2008, showing posts in nearly every month of the year for the past 2 years.

Ive seen a few examples of ones generating traffic too, but the main thing is google hates duplicant content its only a matter of time before the site gets dropped for all keywords they may have found a weakness for the moment but traffic can drop.

I personally like using 100% unique content on all my sites and it is a strategy that had worked well...

What happens when you want to sell off the site? and you have liek 1000 pages of duplicant content lol?

How do you explain newssites? All duplicate content. I used to believe it also that duplicate content is bad, but truth is, it's really not such a big factor and blogs like this can get indexed faster than the blog they're leeching it off.

I agree....have seen a few news aggregator sites with many categories and adsense plugged on them....dupe content doesnt seem to be an issue there
