Like the title says, What exactly are autoblogs? White/Black/Grey hat?

You can use black/grey/white hat technique's on them such as SEO, social networks etc.

What are autoblogs considered? Or does it all depend on how you monetize them and how you "promote" them?

Also with Google. If you think about it, google is an "autoblog" in a sense. It's CONSTANTLY pulling information from ALLOVER the internet and hosting it on their server(s).

So my question stands - which hat do they belong under?

If they use duplicate content then it is black hat

If you mix up the content so it looks original it is gray hat

If you use it and mix in your own set of original articles then it is gray hat

It all depends on what you use it for. You can always optimize your auto-blog with black or white hat techniques.

It's duplicate content, but the content does look fairly unique(content/content wise)
It's not your typical blog though, its not focused around a handful of keywords.

    Hi Payroll,

I wouldn't worry too much about the definition but about the practical implication.

As said before if you simply copy text Google will punish you.

If you send incentive traffic for offers, where no incentives are allowed you will be banned by your cpa network.

If you however stay under the radar use automatic spinner, junk traffic to lower your CR with your CPA offer, DMA to hide your refererk, show related offers from Ebay, Amazon and CB then this might be considered blackhat but it works.

So when you make money and nobody gets hurt take a green hat and celebrate St. Patrick's day with the money you made :D
