I am planning trying to build an Authority site and will continue to update it with articles, this will be a continuous thing over next years and it's evergreen.

I have noticed however that my specific keywords turn up sites with relevant articles but mostly their sites are forum based.

Forums I believe are bad for adsense/CPC etc as they are repeat viewers or something am I correct?

But what my main question is, if google sees 1 website with 1000 high quality original articles vs 1 website with 200 high quality articles but with 500,000 forum posts, will the fact they have a forum be negative or will it index forums just like it would original articles?

I know it's not as simple as that but I'm just wondering is forum worth the effort, I had one before in different niche with 4000 members and it's a lot of extra work.

500,000 forum posts? Google would most likely love that site since it shows the site has a lot of active users.

There's really no way Google can tell whether a post is "high quality" or not ... so a site with 1000 "high quality" articles by itself may not mean much to Google anyway. I guess what matters more is what other people - authorities or influencers - in the niche are saying about the site. Are the people who matter in the niche linking to the site? Are the sharing content? That's really what Google might use to determine a site's quality.

A highly active forum might mean the site is a player in the niche.
