is exact match domain always the best option?
If you have a 4 word phrase, is it still ok to get an exact match domain?

    for example,
    excess weight after pregnancy

    excessweightafterpregnancy.com sounds kind of ridiculous.

For purely SEO purposes, it could still work, but you are also targeting a pretty narrow keyword phrase at that point...seems to me if you could keep it to 2-3 words, you will cover more phrases. For example, pregnancyweightloss, pregnancy-lose-weight or something like that would be generic and I think a better bet.

If you want repeat customers, and an easy to remember name, its a whole other situation, and I would look for shorter and easier to remember/type in names, with at least one main keyword in them.

You'll also notice, with enough seo work, links, etc., it tends to not matter that much what your domain name is :).

All I know from my experience is...exact match domain name = instant first page for low competition and some medium competition key words..I would take it if I can get it but sometimes those long tail keywords do start to sound ridiculous...Any other input on this topic?

go to that domain.. user never see the domain while searching for any thing !! he just need the good product you are delivering.. take your whole keyword domain and start doing SEO when visitor view your site through SERP, he/she does not even bother to know the domain name

Important point that you made about repeat customers. I believe that is one of the main things (if not the main thing) you should be thinking about. Like you said, definitely go with a 2-3 word domain if you want people to actually remember what your domain is and keep coming back for more, preferably 2 words, you must make it easy to remember. But if you want to run a non-repeat customer web site then it does not matter too much, 3-4 words should be just fine.

pregnancyexcessweight would probably do just about as well. Should be a good niche....
