I honestly couldn't care less about 4 c h a n (never even been to it until today) but I am totally against censoring ANYTHING on the internet that's not illegal in real life (child p o rn, etc) because one website can lead to another until all the decent websites are gone. However, I don't think this particular stunt is going to last, especially since from what I heard it is illegal to do in the first place.

that place has borderline breaking policies...Sometimes you see 10-12 yr old kids doing sexual poses in nothing less than a thong. What boggles my mind is whos behind the pictures and the parents to the kid. Real f'ed!

you think the AG will challenge AT&T? They have a ton of money to fight this case and the AG will probably even be disgusted enough by going on that chan-page to not even prosecute. I don't see any "authority" questioning AT&T's decision.

    AT&T shouldn't block/filter them.
It will be funny to see how ********** reacts.
********** does create all the internet memes you know?

    What's AG?
Maybe you're right, it might need to be censored for child porn. I've barely been to it at all but I've always heard it was a site for losers. Didn't know it was THAT bad.

Ya'll can read a huge thread here if you're really that interested in it (I'm sure not) http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread485711/pg1

AG = Attorney General. ATT's action benefits the gov, who seem to want to censor the net, without it looking like they are the ones who did it. The borderline cases may have been put there as a government op, to create the precedent that big corporate can shut down access to sites, so more de facto censorship can happen in the future.

That is exactly what I think his really happening.

I made a thread about that subject a while back, but it got locked for politics.

Here it is, but please don't discussing politics in this one so this one will stay up:

Fuck those cock suckers (/b/). I'm truly happy they are banned. Free speech is all well and dandy but those bastards got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of hand.

Pedophiles, racists, losers, virgins, trolls, scum of the earth.

No one should be happy that ATT banned them. It makes you wonder what they'll ban next. I'm not thrilled about using a censored internet provider.

They got out of hand mate. Seriously the shit they were doing was super-creepy. Stalking the hell out of random ordinary people and causing a riot in their lives. It was so destructive, cruel and vindictive. Not to mention the child porn and torture images that crop up from time to time.

Burn them to the ground I say!

While you might not agree with what is posted there or what is said there do you want your internet provider telling you what websites you can and can't visit? If they banned **********, then I'm sure they'll be banning more down the road.

While i'm not a user of 4*cha*n I do not agree with censorship... That said, I am on AT&T at the moment and am able to access the site. Maybe it's not all att users? Or maybe we've been caught up in a hoax?

They only supposedly blocked certain sections on **********, not the entire site, for example the Misc. board or /b/.

Actually, this has been reported to be a hoax by digg and other sites. ATT also commentated saying they won't block /b/.

I still wish they did. All they are censoring is child porn and hate messages.

AT&T has issued the following statement:

"Beginning Friday, an AT&T customer was impacted by a denial-of-service attack stemming from IP addresses connected to img.4 c h a n.org. To prevent this attack from disrupting service for the impacted AT&T customer, and to prevent the attack from spreading to impact our other customers, AT&T temporarily blocked access to the IP addresses in question for our customers. This action was in no way related to the content at img.4 c h a n.org; our focus was on protecting our customers from malicious traffic.

Overnight Sunday, after we determined the denial-of-service threat no longer existed, AT&T removed the block on the IP addresses in question. We will continue to monitor for denial-of-service activity and any malicious traffic to protect our customers."

What a crock of shit. So 4.chan. apparently ddos's A SINGLE ATT customer? People get ddos'd daily, and i don't see ATT blocking all those ip's.

Honestly if ATT were to continue to block **********, i'm sure they would experience massive ddos attacks and who knows what else.

That's the beauty of the internet, anyone can post anything. Sure, some people post child pornography, gore images, etc and those people doing illegal stuff should be punished. But to ban an entire site based on a few chumps is ridiculous. It comes down to people wanting to censor things, and censorship is never good.

I'm sure the "ATT DDOS angle" is just that, an angle. I for one have never heard of a webserver DDOS'ing somebody but I'm sure it could be spoofed to look like it was. I've been DDOS'd in the past though and the reply i got from Tech Support was pretty much "tough luck" and they never went to great lengths to help me by blocking the IP from the entire ISP. I smell bullshit.

I heard about this, and odd that Embarq users had a hard time getting on BHW at the same time, albeit the problem has been going on before too.
